heyheyhey people!
tmr is the physics test! everyone mugging?
here are the asnwers for physics assignment 2.
(rmb we havent finish copying yet)
-start-
Q4.
Sparklers are at high temperature but have very little internal energy. Each sparkler contains a few molecules vibrating with high kinetic energy but they have very little total internal energy. Thus the thermal energy transferred from the sparklers to the hand is not large enough to burn the hand.
Water at 100 degree Celsius is at a lower temperature but has a lot more internal energy. This is because the water in the bath has many more molecules, each with little kinetic energy, but the total internal energy is high since there are more molecules, each having some internal energy. Thus the thermal energy is transferred from boiling water to the hand are large enough to cause a serve burn on the hands.
Q5a.
Cables are designed to be hanging on the poles so that during the winter season when the temperature of the surroundings is very low, the cables will contract and become taut. If the cables are already taut at the poles, they will break/snap when the temperature is very low during the cold weather.
Q5b.
Boulders are poor conductor of thermal energy. Since boulders are thick, more time will be taken for the thermal energy to be transmitted from the outer parts to inner parts of the boulder by conduction. This will result in uneven expansion on the boulder with cold winter further increases the uneven of boulder.
Q6a.
Iron.
Q6b.
When a fire breaks out, the temperature of the surrounding air increases and thermal energy is transferred from the surrounding to the bimetallic strip. The brass in the bimetallic strip has a higher expansitivity and thus expands more for the same temperature rise as compared to the iron and the strip bends upwards. Once the strip makes contact with the metal place, the circuit is complete and a current flows though the circuit and the bell rings.

everyone jiayou for the exam tmr... dont flunk it...
